August 2008. Top Mast resort, Cape Cod

August 2008. Top Mast resort, Cape Cod

At the end of August 2008 we have decided to catch last few warm days and rented a 2 bedroom cottage at Top Mast resort in North Truro, Cape Cod.

Formally in North Truro, resort is located at the southern end of Provincetown, on the bay side of the cape, within a direct view of Provincetown lighthouse and the seaport.
Resort features three two-story motel buildings right at the beach, and two small cottages on the other side of the road. There is wide and clean, private sandy beach that did not seem crowded despite resort was fully booked.
Sea was calm, and the weather was mostly sunny but quite windy, so even kids did not want to swim in the ocean. However, we have enjoyed sunbathing, playing with Frisbee and flying kites.

Lucky we, Top Mast just finished brand new pool-house, with large heated pool, 12-seating whirlpool spa, sauna, steam-bath room, kiddie pool and milkshake bar. Kids literally spent hours there, taking short breaks to jump in outdoor pool and catch some sun.

Need to say that despite resort positioning on both sides of busy 6A route, traffic did not bother us at all - except when we needed to cross the road to get to the beach and back. Not a big deal, but we had to watch the kids very carefully. Other than that, pools and cottages are reasonably isolated. Outdoor pool is surrounded by greens so it literally can not be seen from the road.

Being close to the Provincetown gave us quite few opportunities to explore its downtown and marina, which is quite interesting tour on its own. And of course, we did not miss whale watching - as you can see from the pictures, we were able to see quite few of them and from a short distance - to a degree one of the whales decides to use our ship to scratch itself.

Overall I can call this very well spent week and can recommend Top Mast to everyone who is looking for place to stay close to Provincetown. I also have more detailed photo-review of Top Mast resort on a separate page for those interested. At the end of August 2008 we have decided to catch last few warm days and rented a 2 bedroom cottage at Top Mast resort in North Truro, Cape Cod.
